Twitter just made history in the social media space. If you haven’t heard, they’re integrating NFTs onto the platform through their paid subscription service “Twitter Blue” at $3/month.

How does it work?
Twitter has rolled out the long-anticipated option for subscription members to set up NFT avatars as profile pictures. This means people are now able to associate their Twitter account with their connected public wallet address. Furthermore, others can now view holdings and transactions including other NFTs in the connected wallet.

Introducing New Authenticity
NFTs are verified as authentic through their metadata on the digital blockchain. Unfortunately, with no real alternative to verify authenticity on social platforms, users who may not have purchased the real NFT may take a screenshot or save the image as a JPEG file, and falsely claim it as their own on social media.

Twitter’s official verification mechanism for NFT profile pictures gives huge validation to both NFT holders and creators. NFT owners now get a new hexagonal border — which leaves pesky right-clickers who claim NFTs without ownership stuck with the classic circle frame.

How great is that!

How does this affect the space?
As we all know, the world is moving quickly towards a realm of having digital identities for everyone — ones that can’t be replicated or faked. With Twitter’s new feature unveiled, it’s a large step in the right direction for new innovation surrounding authenticity and protecting the data of people, in a future of digital social living.

What do you think? Let us know if you’ve tried out this new feature!
